Principle #1 The only reliable basis for sound government and just human relations is Natural Law

Principle #1 The only reliable basis for sound government and just human relations is Natural Law

What is Natural Law?

Our world is governed by Natural Laws that cannot be modified by us no matter how strongly we wish it were true. If you step off a cliff, gravity will pull you down towards the earth. All of the laws written by well-meaning politicians cannot change that fact. An airplane does not violate natural law, an upward force is created as the wind flows faster over the wings than it flows under the wings. This is another principle of Natural Law.

How can we achieve happiness?

Happiness in life can only be achieved when we are living in harmony with the laws of Nature and Nature's God. If following Natural Law is important in our lives, it is equally important for our communities, cities, states, and countries. We should only elect wise and virtuous men who understand and follow Natural Laws. Chaos and harm will result from following any other path. God's law or the law of Nature's God is called "right reason". When perfectly understood and followed it is called "Wisdom". When applied to the government it is called "Justice".

What is Social Justice?

Do not allow yourself to be fooled by the concept of "Social Justice". It is not justice. My ancestors were forcefully evicted from New York, Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois. The people who did this died many years ago. It is not justice for me to require the children of those people who did not commit this crime to be punished for it. I am very thankful my ancestors let this go and did not harbor hate in their hearts or teach their children to hate. I am not being held captive by this hate. My heart is free to love and be loved.

Remember the old saying, "Two wrongs cannot make a right".

How do we live this principle today?

Before any law is passed, we must ask ourselves, "Is this law in harmony with the laws of Nature and Nature's God?" If the law cannot pass this test, it must be torn up and thrown into the bin of foolish ideas.

What ideas and rights are based on Natural Law?

Unalienable Rights

Unalienable Duties

The right to Habeas Corpus

Limited Government

Separation of Powers

Checks and Balances

The right to Self Preservation

The right to form Contracts

Protecting the family and marriage

Justice by Reparation

The right to bear arms

No taxation without representation

How can I learn more?

To read more about the Principles of Freedom, please read the book The Five Thousand Year Leap by my friend, W. Cleon Skousen. This book is a classic and is worth reading over and over and should have a very special place in your Liberty Library.
